Scenes from the Weekend

Where did the weekend go?

Mine started on Friday. I didn’t have to work, so I started out my day with a Cardio Sculpt class at the gym. Oh. my. gosh. We ended up doing 1,100 reps of various exercises with a weighted bar, plus a one mile run. I thought my shoulders would be aching the next day, but it was my legs that felt the pain. I felt like I was waddling around all weekend. By the time the class was half way over, half the women had left. It was tough.

Later on Friday, my mom, Hilary and I went to the movies to see Delivery Man. It was really good! The previews made it seem like it’d have a lot of guy humor, but it was actually really touching and funny. I recommend it!

On Saturday, Jordan and I had a lazy morning at home before braving the crowds at Target for some outdoor Christmas decorations.

Since we lived in an apartment last year, we didn’t have to buy too much outdoor decor. This year, we bought a big roll of lights and some garland for our lamppost. We’re hoping that we have enough, but if not, we’ll go back for more!

After our shopping spree, I met up with my sisters to get my nails done, and then Jordan and I went to a party at one of his college friend’s house. It was fun to see some of the people that Jordan went to school with (including one of the groomsman in our wedding). We were the only old married couple there — we left around 9:45, naturally ;).

On Sunday, we had Jordan’s parents and siblings over for dinner. Since we won’t be here for Thanksgiving, I thought it’d be nice to get together beforehand. I made Jenna’s chicken tortilla soup and Jessica’s brown butter chocolate-stuffed toffee chip cookies. They were both a big hit!

Sidenote: Have you seen our (almost) finished kitchen yet?

I’m really happy with the way that it turned out. We still have to put the trim back on the cabinets (the back of the cabinet will eventually be finished too), and put up a back splash, but all of the big things are done. Our next project will be our living room. Notice how the room off of the kitchen looks empty? Well, it is. It has a fireplace, so I’d love to make it a sitting room!

After dinner and dessert we watched a video of us from when we were in Hawaii — immediately, we all wished that we were somewhere sunny and warm. I think it only got up to about 25 degrees this weekend, and it’s really feeling like winter!

Three days until Thanksgiving! Have a great Monday!

    1. Thank you! The cabinet and counter space is definitely what sold me, and we added a little more when we got new countertops. It’s probably my favorite room in the house!

  1. That looks awesome! I really like your kitchen a lot. I didn’t do a whole heck of a lot but do agree that the weekend seemed to went really quickly. I was mostly lazy all weekend ha ha.

Also that chalkboard idea on your fridge is genius!

    1. Not usually, that’s how hard it was! They went up to the instructor and apologized as they left — a couple of people actually got injured!

  2. I spent the weekend being lazy on the couch. It was cold and rainy here (well more like 50 degrees cold, not 25!) so it was perfect. :) I also managed to get the house clean. Good for you for getting a jump start on your decorating! That’s on my to-do list for next week!

  3. I love your kitchen! We need to find a new home with a bigger kitchen; I should honestly do a post on how freakishly small it is. What a wonderful weekend for you and your family. I am really looking forward to Thursday! This weekend was work + studying + chores, but this long weekend will be much appreciated (and will involve ZERO homework if I can help it!)

  4. I saw Delivery Man too and was also pleasantly surprised. I was expecting it to be kinda corny, but it was actually a lot sweeter and sentimental than I thought. LOVE the chalkboard paint idea on your fridge!
