Friday Things

1. Can it be spring yet? Particularly, spring break? I don’t know how much more I can take of the gloomy, windy, icy days.

2. One nice thing about being a school employee in the winter time? You get to watch the closings and delays scroll on the bottom of the TV screen, as if you’re back in elementary school. It really doesn’t get old. We have another two-hour delay today for ice. It almost makes me want to take back #1. Almost.

3. House hunting is a stressful thing, especially as first time home buyers on a newlywed budget. We’ve found a house that we really like, but putting in an offer is kind of nerve-wracking. It’s only the biggest purchase we’ve ever made — no big deal, right ;) ?

4. Rant: I wish that high schools and colleges would prepare students for the burden of student loan debt. They have tons of meetings for parents, but normally, students don’t feel the impact until six months after college graduation. I try not to let our student loan debt bother me — it’s just a fact of life,  and it’s considered “good debt” –  but it’s depressing to think how much we’ve paid for school when we could be putting all of that money elsewhere. Jordan and I will definitely not be one of those couples who waits to start a family until all of our debt is paid off — it wouldn’t be biologically possible. Please tell me someone else feels this way. Rant over.

5. I cannot wait to give our apartment a thorough cleaning tomorrow. I always feel so much better after I clean. Yes, I’m weird.

6. I want to thank you again for all of the responses I got on this post.  You guys are the best :) .

7. Her baby. Oh. my. gosh. It makes me want one. Adorable.

8. The Today Show is in Miami today, where it’s 80+ degrees outside. I’m going to live vicariously through them until I have to brave the ice to go to work ;) .

Have a wonderful weekend!

Are you ready for spring weather?

Do you have fun plans this weekend?

I feel ya on the student loans and house hunting! We’ve been married 1.5 years (so I guess we’re still technically newlyweds!) and combining that with our budget, it’s so stressful! I’m just thankful my husband had as many scholarships/grants that he did or we would be in a lot worse shape.

And I totally agree…there is no way we could wait to have kids until our debt is gone. I might make the Guinness Book of World Record for the oldest women to give birth ;)

    Have a great Friday/Weekend!!

  2. I am “working from home” due to the snow today. It is nice! I feel like I am back in college again… but maybe that is because I work for a college! ;)

I am watching the Today Show in Miami too. So jealous! Let’s just transport there ;) .

  3. Watching the bottom of the screen is hands down the best part of winter while being a teacher! Love it! I also know the feelings of looking for houses on a newlyed budget, as well as having loans out the wazoo from college!Especially since I am only subbing and haven’t found a permnent job yet. I can’t wait to finally find a house, though, that we love! (and can afford!)

  4. You’re not crazy for liking clean. My “cleaning day” is the most glorious day of the week :)

I feel you about student loans too. I thankfully have very little and my husband’s undergrad was paid for, but he’s doing his masters now at a pretty good school. NOT CHEAP! We both feel so overwhelmed by it sometimes, but we know it’s going to be worth it in the end (we hope).

    Hapyp Friday!

  5. Alyssa says:

That ice is CRAZY! Be safe out there!

Also, I had a question about teaching… would you mind if I emailed you? :)

  6. Lauren says:

Um you know how I feel about student loans… and college for that matter. It’s nuts how much I pay a month for a piece of paper that hangs on my wall. I totally hear you! And even though it’s “good debt” it’s still debt, which sucks trying to explain when you’re buying something that requires them to check your credit. But hey, that’s life and millions of people are in the same boat!

    Have a good weekend!

Ahh…I know. And if I remember correctly what your loans are, we pay double that now that our loans are combined :( . I wish someone would just erase everyone’s student loan debt :) ! Have a great weekend!

  7. Diane @ Life of Di. says:

Loved reading that birth story :) So sweet. I want a baby every time I hold and watch the baby I nanny for. Then I hear the three year old throwing a tantrum in the other room and realize…I will be waiting awhile longer. Not quite ready for all of that yet ;)

  8. that is so interesting about student loan because it is something we talk about with our students all the time when prepping them with college, it has become a huge part of their curriculum

  9. Oh girl, I totally feel you on the therapy that is a deep clean. Clutter and mess stresses me out LIKE WHOA, so cleaning my apartment (or, more specifically, the end result of cleaning my apartment) is always a great thing for my mental state.

  10. Student Loans are the best, said no one ever.

  11. We got a ton of snow last night and into this morning–I know most people hate it, but I still love it because it’s so pretty when it’s falling down.

One of my friends told me she pays over $500 per month in student loans–I was so shocked at that! I can’t imaging paying that much!

    • Emily says:

Yeah — you don’t even wanna know how much we pay then, it’s a lot more than that :( . I would take snow over ice any day — snow is pretty, ice is just dangerous!

  12. Ugh my student loans are killing me! Haha.

  13. Katy says:

I agree 100% about the student loan debt. It’s so frustrating especially when jobs are also difficult to obtain right now. I cannot wait until the day Sallie Mae is no longer in my life!!!
