Last week, both Laura and Lauren posted about their makeup and skincare routines, and I thought I’d join in on the fun. It’s always interesting to hear how others take care of their skin, because there are so many products out there — sometimes it’s difficult to know where to begin! I have very sensitive skin (sometimes dry, sometimes oily, occasional breakouts). I’ve been following most of this routine for years, and it hasn’t disappointed me yet.
Skincare Routine:
Aveeno Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser
I wash my face with this cleanser morning and night. It helps even out my skin tone, which tends to get a little blotchy in the cold, dry winter months, and it doesn’t leave my face feeling dry.
I got the Clarisonic Mia 2 for Christmas, and I love it! In the beginning, I only used it once a week (I wanted to see how my sensitive skin would handle it), but I am using it once a day, everyday now. All I have to do is lather my face with my cleanser, turn on the Mia 2, and let it do the work. It came with Fresh Soy Face Cleanser and Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster, so I use those on occasion also, if I feel like it. The soy face cleanser is really gentle and great for removing eye makeup!
Purpose Dual Treatment Moisture Lotion with SPF 15
Purpose was recommended to me by my dermatologist when I was 15, and I’ve been a loyal customer ever since. This moisturizer is light enough to wear everyday, yet thick enough to soothe my dry winter skin. It also contains SPF, which is a must for me. I apply it every morning after washing my face. The best part is, it’s only $7.89 at Target, and it lasts a very long time!
Yes to Tomatoes Repairing Acne Lotion
In my teens, I was dedicated to Proactiv, like many other people my age. As I got older, however, I realized that I didn’t need to use something so strong, and my Proactiv repairing lotion was doing more harm than good. I found Yes to Tomatoes at Target, and I love it! The formula is very light, and it’s 97% natural. I’m not sure that it would’ve been strong enough for my teenage skin, but it works well for me now. I use a small amount every other night after washing my face.
Makeup Routine:
bareMinerals Matte SPF 15 Foundation in Light
I’m convinced that once you switch to bareMinerals, you’ll never go back. Believe me, I’ve tried liquid foundations and off-brand mineral makeups, and they’re just not the same. bareMinerals prides itself on being so gentle that you can sleep in it, and my sensitive skin is a fan! It is a little bit more expensive, but one jar of foundation can last you at least a year, and in my opinion, the benefits outweigh the cost. I apply this makeup with the Full Flawless Application Face Brush, and I wear the same color year-round, as it blends with both my winter and summer skin!
bareMinerals Warmth All-Over Face Color
I was never a bronzer girl, until I discovered this bronzer. It makes me look sun-kissed anytime of the year, which I love, and it doesn’t give me that fake, shimmery look that we all strived for when we were 13
. Like all bareMinerals products, this one is definitely worth the investment. I apply this with the Flawless Application Face Brush.
Blush is one of those things that I could take or leave, especially when I’m already wearing bronzer, but I bought this color for my wedding, and I like it so much that I’ve been wearing it everyday. It has a slight shimmer to it, and goes well over the bareMinerals Warmth. I couldn’t find this color on the website anymore, so I actually think it’s been discontinued, but the good thing is, this stuff lasts forever! The jar that I bought seven months ago is still full. I apply this with the Flawless Application Face Brush, as well.
CoverGirl LashBlast 24 Hour Mascara in Black Gold
If I could only wear one item of makeup, it would be mascara. I have really light eyelashes, and if I don’t wear it, people ask me if I’m tired or sick. I love it when they do that
. This is waterproof and really does last all day long. I like the color too, because it has flecks of gold in it, which looks a little more natural on my blonde eyelashes. Oh, and I always curl my eyelashes. I heat my eyelash curler with my blow dryer, curl my lashes, apply two coats of mascara, heat my eyelash curler again, and curl my lashes again. It sounds complicated, but I’ve got it down to a science. It figures that I’d have curly hair, but stick straight eyelashes
.
bareMinerals Prime Time Primer Shadow
Ever get to the end of the day and feel like your powder eyeshadow is creasing, fading and sliding off your eyelids? Just me? Well, it happens, and it’s exactly why I love this stuff. It has a built-in primer, so it stays on all.day.long, and it comes in a bunch of fun colors. It goes on with the swipe of your finger, and you can even layer regular eyeshadow on top of it with a brush for a more dramatic look.
I got this palette for Christmas. It’s very neutral, so it’s perfect for a simple daytime look, but it also includes darker colors that are great for shading. When I wear this, I apply chafing gel on my eyelids first (sound weird, but it works just like a primer, I promise) and then I layer it to my liking with a brush.
CoverGirl Perfect Blend Eyeliner in Smoky Taupe
I don’t wear eyeliner too often because it tends to look really dramatic on my eye shape and complexion, but when I do, I wear CoverGirl. I stick to the light brown color because I do have really light eyelashes, and if I wear something too dark, I just look like a raccoon. This one lasts a long time and goes on fairly smooth, plus it’s very affordable! The only downside is that it’s not waterproof.
And there you have it! Looking at this post, it might seem like I have a complicated routine, but it really doesn’t take me too long to do my makeup in the morning. My lion’s mane hair is a different story
.
What does your makeup and skincare routine look like?
What is your favorite brand of makeup? Face wash?
**I was not compensated to review any of these products. I simply enjoy using them, and wanted to share!**

I love hearing other people’s opinions on skincare products! I have used the Aveeno skin brightening lotion for years, but have never tried the cleanser. I use a olive oil bar soap from Kiss My Face instead. You may have convinced me to finally try the Bare Minerals line! I have always wanted to, but haven’t gotten brave enough to branch out from my standard foundation! I love the idea of wearing fancy eye makeup (aka more than mascara), but I always feel like it is too obvious and unnatural!
I like to hear about other skincare products. I had really bad acne in high school and early college. It has flair ups occasionally but certainly not as bad as before. Anyways-I never went on proactive or acutane (I know a lot of runners who cannot even go on acutane because it leaches so much calcium from your bones!). Anyways and make up always interests me as well! Thanks for sharing!
I use Purpose moisturizer too and it really does keep my skin from being flaky in the winter!
I agree, that if you switch to Bare Minerals you will not go back! I love the stuff and even though it’s on the pricier side, it lasts forever and it’s good for you! I’ll take it!!
I have heard such great stuff about bare minerals. I have never used it though
I started using Bare Minerals this past Fall, and I agree that I’m never going back to anything else. The price is 100% worth it.
i love my bareminerals too – like you said, once you try it, you’re hooked! i also use the primtime shadow – SO great for keeping eyeshadow in place!
Thanks for the post, I think I’m going to try your moisturizer since mine is just too expensive. Also, I think I’m going to finally take the Bare Minerals plunge, I’ve been dying to try it!
You should! They sell those starter kits (at ULTA) that are really great for when you’re first trying it out!
I love the Clarisonic! And Yes to Carrots! Great review:)
Thank you!
I love that you found a mascara that has bits of gold in it to go with your hair! How cool is that?!
I know, I was excited when I found it!
Love seeing your things! I need to do a post like this!! I use melaleuca products and some jane iredale things!
I’d love it if you did a post like this!
Great post! I love finding new skin/beauty products! My friend reccommened Bare Minerals to me but I have yet to take the plunge and get it. Now that I’ve heard sooo many great things about their product line, I figure I should give a try!!
I use ‘Yes to Tomatoes’ too!
I really love it and I feel like it has been the only thing to clear up my breakouts. I still get hormonal breakouts on my jawline but they are much easier to hide now.
Ah, hormones. I have the same problem. I’m glad that it’s getting better with age too!
