Thank you so much for all of your kind comments on Tuesday’s post. Jordan and I celebrated our anniversary by lounging for most of the day, playing 45 minutes of Just Dance 4 for some exercise, going out for a celebratory dinner at Olive Garden, and watching ‘Pitch Perfect.’ It was a good day
.
And now… it’s back to reality. Kind of. I don’t actually go back to work until next Tuesday, so technically I’m still on vacation. It’s actually starting to make me pretty lazy. The longer that I’m on break, the less I want to go back to work. Next week’s going to be rough!
With 2013 here, it’s time to start thinking about my goals for the new year. I don’t make resolutions, but I do feel like I need to write (or in this case, type) down my goals in order to make them happen. My saying for this year is going to be, “Do less, enjoy more.” By doing less, I mean, doing less of the stuff that I don’t want to do, and enjoying more of the things that I do want to do. This also means that I will be saying “no” more often, which could be good for me
. And with that, here are my goals for 2013:
1. Buy a house. I’d say this is the #1 priority for Jordan and I this year. As much as I will miss the apartment that we first lived in together, I am ready to invest in something rather than paying rent every month. This was on my list of goals last year, but we weren’t ready for the responsibility yet. This year, we’re ready!
2. Run a second half marathon. Without injuries. I’m going to take a break from running this winter, and pick it back up again in the spring. I need to let my knee and shin splints heal, and then hopefully, I can train for my second half marathon without being in pain the whole time. I might even try to convince Jordan to run this one with me
.
I’m excited to try out my Garmin Forerunner 10!
3. Write. Preferably, to supplement our income. As much as I love blogging in my free time, I would love to turn this hobby into something more. I graduated with my degree in Communications with hopes of becoming a writer, and I want to make that happen.
4. Go to Mackinac Island. Jordan and I have already talked about taking a trip for our one year wedding anniversary; we just have to figure out the details! I’d love to go back with my cousin one day too — we have so many memories there
.
5. Take other trips to Michigan. The majority of my relatives live in Michigan, and I don’t see enough of them. We didn’t get together for the holidays this year, so I’m hoping to get back up there later this winter, or in the spring.
Last time I visited family in Michigan!
6. Visit my friend in Arizona. My friend from college moved to Arizona in the summer of 2011, and I have yet to make it out there to see her! Jordan and I are going to Arizona on spring break with his family this year, and I’m hoping to meet up with her. We email back and forth, but I miss our monthly dinner dates and can’t wait to see her!
7. Dance. I really miss performing. I’m not sure if accomplishing this goal will mean taking dance classes at a studio, teaching dance to little kids, or becoming certified to teach Zumba, but somehow, someway, I want to get back into it.
8. Document my workouts. I’ve created a Workout Log tab on my blog so I can keep track of my workouts from day to day and week to week. I love looking at other bloggers’ logs to get new exercise ideas, and I hope that some of you will enjoy mine too! It’ll also help me remember what I did so I can mix things up more often!
What are your goals for 2013?

Looks like some great goals for the year. Inspired me to get my list together too.
Those are great goals! My husband and I plan on buying a house this year as well, but that isn’t on my list of 2013 goals. We are so ready to stop paying rent each month and make a house our own home.
I got a pink garmin for Christmas this year too! I’m definitely excited to check it out!
Ooo! I have heard great things about the Garmin 10! Excited to hear what you think of it!
Love the list, especially the travel. I want to travel more too this year. I mean, we went to NYC a lot last year and KC a few times… but I want to see new places
Not many other goals for me!
I love the whole “Do less, enjoy more” view and your goals!
I want to do my second half-marathon too this year
We would love to buy a house but we just aren’t in the market for it yet. Love the outlook of “do less, enjoy more” too. I definitely need more of that in my life.
Such awesome goals, Emily! It’s so exciting for me to read other’s new year’s goals in addition to my own. I’m just so darn excited about this year! One of my goals is also to run a second half-marathon. I too want to take running off for the winter as I really can’t run on a treadmill right and it’s not practical to run in this 4 degree weather right now. I really love your mantra for the year. That’s something all of us perfectionists should really try to implement. Best of luck with your goals! I’m excited to see what comes of you year.
I love that your goals focus on ‘happy’ things like travel and your future! So refreshing! I have been thinking about some time of running watch/device so I am looking forward to see what you think of your Garmin!
these are awesome goals for the next year, I see a lot of visiting and travelling which is always fun
I really like the two about dance and writing. Those are two things I enjoy that have fallen by the wayside for me, and I’d like to get back into them. Starting my blog was a step in the right direction…for the writing part.
I love everything about this post. Is that weird? Anyways-first, I can’t wait for you to be able to run some injury free miles. I think taking winter off and picking back up in the spring will be really good for you. I can’t wait to see where this year goes for you!
PS: Your anniversary sounds perfect!
I rarely have a chance to comment on blogs, but I have a few minutes today and I HAD to comment on this. You have some awesome goals and I really feel that you will accomplish them. I know that’s so corny, but I love that you love writing.
also, it’s refreshing to see such a good MIX of things you want to do. I have to admit, mine were primarily boring baby and fitness goals for this year. WHY did I leave out the fun stuff? Hmm…
Aw, thanks
! That’s okay…baby and fitness stuff can be fun!
You should look into running the Detroit 1/2 Marathon! I’m doing it with some friends and am trying to talk my husband into it as well. It is the end of October and goes through Canada as well as Detroit
Ooo, that would be fun!
you should totally get certified as a zumba teacher or teach dance, I think that would be such a fun way for you to get back into dancing and make some money!
I agree! Thanks!
These are awesome goals and I love your motto! Sometimes doing less is key. Not need to be perfect either in things that don’t matter. In some areas, good enough is simply good enough!
One of my goals is to run another half marathon too
When were you thinking? I am planning mine for October again! I want to do a few 5ks this year too. Happy running!!
I’m not sure, I’m still trying to decide! I’d like to do one in the spring, but the weather is so unpredictable. It could be really hot, or it could be really rainy! Thanks, you too!
These are some really great goals, and I’m right on board with your third one! This year, in addition to pushing myself out of my comfort zone a bit more, I really want to focus on writing and blogging. I have a lot to learn in terms of how to get myself out there more, and I’m really looking forward to it.
Go look with the home buying questions! Let me know if you ever need any advice. I work in home loans for my job
Thank you! I will definitely let you know!
Awesome goals! I love the idea of doing less & enjoying more. I need to take on that mentality with cleaning. If I did a bit more of the small stuff during the week, I could ultimately do less on big cleaning days and enjoy myself more. Good luck with your goals!
Writing is something that I really want to do someday, too (besides just the blog). I’m not sure what exactly I want to write, but it’s definitely in my plans for the future.
