Friday Things

1. My allergies have been ridiculously out of control this week. One minute I’m sneezing, the next minute I’m stuffy, and the next, I’m fighting off a sinus headache. This can only mean one thing — fall is right around the corner.

2. Speaking of fall, I am in dire need of some new fall clothes. Most of the things I own are from college, and I think it’s time for a wardrobe upgrade. I might be hitting up Target this weekend — just because I’m out of college doesn’t mean that I’m not on a budget ;) .

3. My sister turned 19 on Tuesday, so this week has been full of birthday celebrations. On Wednesday, I took her out for Panera and DQ.

And tonight, we’re celebrating with our family, complete with a special delivery from Georgetown Cupcake.  I’m not much of a cake person, but we ordered Georgetown cupcakes last year for Christmas and they are so good. I’m excited.

4. I think my shin splints are finally healing! I ran/walked 3.4 miles on Wednesday, and I woke up the next morning with zero pain! I’m changing my training strategy and trying the Galloway method. It works.

5. Did you know that people still smoke? I am reminded of it every morning when I open up our windows to let the fresh air in. Our apartment is surrounded by smokers, which means that we have to breathe it in every day. I’d just like to enjoy this fall weather without the smell of cigarettes, thank you very much. (rant over)

6. My cousin is in town for the weekend! My sisters, Lauren and I spent last night eating frozen yogurt and standing in sports bra section of Wal-Mart for about 25 minutes (true life: we’re indecisive).

7. I’ve finally taken the plunge. It’ll be in my hands by next week!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Oh goodness, so many great things in this post!

    1. My allergies have been horrible, too! Runny nose, watery eyes–ick!
    2. I need some new clothes, too–especially now that I have a different job than last year!
    3. Panera and DQ sounds like a great combo! I had their black bean soup last night and it totally hit the spot! I’m not a cake person either!

  2. Lauren says:

Im soooo excited for your iPhone!! And used the sportsbra this morning and it worked great! Yay for spontaneous bargains : )

  3. You two are adorable together, i was saying on her blog it never clicked you guys were sisters! I hope you have a blast tonight.

  4. I’m getting the new iPhone next week, too! I’m SO excited. I’ve had Tracfone since I was 16, so this will be a H.U.G.E. upgrade for me. A real plan! A smartphone! No more agonizing over sending texts and making phone calls because my minute counter is running low! Can. Not. Wait.

  5. Mmmm that picture makes me want a DQ blizzard, like…right now. There’s a DQ within walking distance of my parent’s house. They go like once a week. Haha.
I always said I wasn’t a cake person, but this summer I’ve had some incredible pieces of cake, including my first piece of wedding cake! So I think I’ve become a cake convert.

  6. Caroline says:

I’m using the Galloway method to train for the race too. It’s how I got through the Indy mini this year, and it’s great. I’m hoping it will help me avoid shin splints this time around in training as well. Hope it works for you!

  7. I’d be excited about those cupcakes too!!
Oh, and I know how you feel about the smoking–for a year I lived right above a buildings “smoking area”. It was so so disgusting–I could smell it even with the windows closed all the time! Seriously, who smokes anymore?!

  8. Haha I am always in need of new clothes. Most of mine are from college too because that’s the last time I had a job!

  9. Having a cupcake from Georgetown Cupcakes is on my bucket list. SO JEALOUS. (Actually, as is having a slice of cake from Carlo’s Bakery. #TLCaddict #sorryi’mnotsorry)
Our city just banned cigarettes in public places (so parks and beaches and restaurant patios) in addition to the ban they already had in bars and restaurants and bus stops. It’s great that they’re moving forward, but I still hate walking through the smoke while passing someone on the sidewalk. I don’t say anything, it’s their choice and they’re within the law, but it does irritate me.
Happy belated to your sister, and enjoy the celebrations and your cousin’s visit!! :)

  10. Good to hear that your shin splits are starting to go away! I think mine are too but my run today didn’t go as well as I had hoped. I will most likely have to walk at least half of the half marathon but I’m hoping that one day I’ll actually be able to run the full 13.1. Also, I love shopping at Target. Ever since I got married that’s been the place to shop (we’re budgeting too :) )

  11. You made an essential blogger mistake … you didn’t tell us what you ordered at Dairy Queen. That’s a no-no, my friend. ;)

  12. you and your sis are too cute!!! my allergies have been killing me too!

  13. Smokers are jokers.

Gladd you and your sister enjoyed celebrating her birthday. Also glad your shin splits are getting better!

  14. My allergies have been so annoying lately! Thank goodness for Flonase and Zyrtec!

And I hate smoking! My school has an abnormal amount of smokers and it always grosses me out so much seeing all of them. I think about their poor lungs!

  15. Casey says:

My allergies always suck, but taking Claritin-D (or the generic, they work the same) has helped a lot more than just plain Claritin. Something to look into! However, you can only buy them like 10 at a time and the 24 hr works 95% better than the 12 hr (for me at least!).

The buy one get one for 99 cents DQ thing is killing me.

    Smokers are disgusting. So. Nasty.
