Some type-A people plan for spontaneity. I am one of those people. On Friday night, I came home from work and made Jordan pick pieces of paper out of hats at random. He had no idea what I was up to.
There were three different categories: dinner, activity, dessert. I was going to let fate decide what we would do. Jordan ended up choosing Olive Garden, movie, and Dairy Queen out of the hat. But Jordan wasn’t thrilled with that plan (he did get a kick out of the fact that I included “buy new phones” in the activity section
). And honestly, I didn’t feel like Olive Garden anymore either — I only put that option in there because we have a gift card. So, we ended up at our favorite Mexican restaurant instead. We also decided to skip the movie since we had to be up early to drive to a family reunion. And Dairy Queen? That didn’t happen either. Halfway through dinner, the tornado sirens went off and we ended up scarfing down our food and driving over to my parents’ to take cover in the basement. I guess that’s what happens when you feel the need to plan to be spontaneous
.
On Saturday morning, we were up before the sun came up to drive to Michigan for a family reunion/party.
We only went up for the day, which meant a five hour drive there, and a five hour drive back. The whole day was a blur, but it was totally worth it. We got to spend some time with my grandma on my mom’s side, before heading over to my aunt and uncle’s house for the family reunion on my dad’s side.
I got to catch up with this girl and the rest of my family, which was fun
.
I spent most of yesterday trying to catch up on stuff around the apartment, but reality is really sinking in today. The good thing is, I have a lot to look forward to this week, including my sister’s birthday celebration, so this week should be fun. Or it will be, right after I finish the laundry… ![]()
Have a good Monday!
What’d you do over the weekend?
What would your ideal date night consist of?

Lol – your idea to plan spontaneous activity sounds exactly like I would do!
Including deciding to forgo whatever was pulled from the hat and do something else!
I love the idea to pick things out of a hat because my husband and I are some of the most indecisive people ever! I will have to try that. My weekend consisted of celebrating my birthday, my cousin’s daughter’s 1st birthday and watching lots of football!
I love that idea though of letting fate decide, so cool!
This is a really cute idea. I feel like we are the type of couple that needs to have predetermined ideas too, otherwise it’s like “hmmm..what do you want to do?” “I don’t know, what do you want to do?” haha… round and round!
I love this cute spontaneous date idea! I am definitely going to use it for my fiance and I. It is so cute!
I fall into the same trap of “planning” to be spontaneous. Most of the time I just tell myself to do something spontaneous within the next week … But it’s almost better that way because at least you’re planning SOME kind of fun and adventure into your day instead of drowning in the monotony of it all.
Ps. Love the sign on the front of the camper.
I thought the sign was cute too
Such a sweet idea but I’d probably be similar in wanting to switch it a bit
Sounds like you had a great weekend. Mine was jam packed with family time too – those are always the best
Jordan really should’ve picked the “get new phones” paper, considering yours is from like 2008
Yesterday my phone missed three calls and four text messages because apparently it now has some weird delay. I’m looking for a new phone this week
.
You and your cousin are so cute!
Perfect date night = going out to eat, browsing through Barnes and Noble, and then seeing a movie. We also really enjoy RedBox and popcorn nights on the couch too! haha
That sounds perfect to me too! And thank you
I have read a few others do that date night trick! I love that idea. My fiance and I are the two most indecisive ppl in the world so this would eliminate about 30 minutes of bickering haha
I really need to do something spontaneous. I am so boring!
