The Day I Met Bethenny Frankel

One week ago today, I met Bethenny Frankel — at Sam’s Club, of all places. And as cheesy as it sounds, I think it was fate.

First of all, I don’t belong to Sam’s Club. I had no idea that a big sign had been plastered at the front of this particular Sam’s Club for days, advertising that Bethenny was arriving. Nope — I just happened to find out the day before.

I work for a tech company that involves social media, so I usually have Facebook open throughout my day. I just happened to glance at my news feed for one second late last Tuesday afternoon, and was drawn to the words “Sam’s Club on 96th St. in Indianapolis.” I looked closer, and noticed that it was Bethenny who posted it. I thought I was dreaming. Bethenny is coming to Indy? Bethenny is coming to Indy! I immediately texted my sister, who said she wanted to go. Despite the fact that my work day was almost over, I had to make plans fast. I decided to work from home the next day, so I could get an early start and work late if I needed, giving me plenty of time to get to Bethenny’s bottle signing in the middle of the day — because a 2:00 p.m. bottle/magazine/book signing is not the most convenient thing for people who work…but I had to be there!

That Wednesday, my sister Molly and I arrived at Sam’s Club around 1:15. We were happy to see that we were fairly close to the beginning of the line. We wouldn’t have to wait much longer!

And sure enough, 45 minutes later (it went by fast :) ), Bethenny walked out, with her crew, including Jackie and Veronica (if you don’t watch the show, her assistant and glammy – nanny/hair and makeup artist), not too far behind.

By the time Bethenny came out and started signing, we had to wait about another 20 minutes to get through the line. And once I was up there, I had approximately 30 seconds to say what I wanted.

She signed my bottle and book; I told her I loved her book. She said thank you and nice to meet you, and then I was on my way. It was a whirlwind.

After the signing, we were told to move to the front of the store, where Bethenny would be speaking.

When Bethenny arrived at the front of the store, she introduced herself, spoke a little about her life, and then began a Q & A session. I raised my hand to ask a question, and since the audience was fairly small, I was chosen immediately. I asked Bethenny for her biggest piece of marriage advice, and after joking around a little (you know what I mean if you watch ‘Bethenny Ever After’ — they’ve been fighting lately) she answered my question. It’s pretty strange when you watch someone on TV on Monday night, and they’re talking to you on Wednesday afternoon. And when I say strange, I mean cool :) .

The Q&A session didn’t last too long, so soon it was time to go. I couldn’t leave without taking a picture of her glammy, since she was practically standing right next to me.

There’s Veronica

Instead of asking for a picture with her, I had to be a creeper and take one from five feet away. I kind of regret that now.

Last Wednesday felt like a dream, and I’m so glad I went :) .

Have you ever met one of your favorite celebs? Prior to meeting Bethenny, I met Patrick Dempsey.  But, I was 16 at the time and barely knew who he was.

  1. That’s so awesome you met her! I’ve never met any celebrity before, but I also live in small town Minnesota so it’s extremely rare that any celebrity would just show up :) I was super close to Beyonce at a concert once though! haha

  2. Amy says:

Oh man I LOOOOOOVE Bethenny and am so jealous!!!! Did you watch the episode is week? So emotional with Veronica!!

Ahh, I LOVE Bethenny, there’s something about her that I find really honest and she is also just hilarious. I met DMX once in the mall near my house. My friend went up to him and asked for his autograph and he barked, “stop being greedy!” and laughed (if you’re not familiar with him that’s a line from one of his songs). We both laughed awkwardly and were pretty much terrified.

  4. Wow that is seriously awesome and I’m glad you got to do that! I love that she even answered your question. Wow-I’m legit in shock and awe!

  5. I think Bethenny is hilarious. So cool that you got to meet her. I’ve met a few celebs in my time, but nobody that exciting. But I did just meet Chris Tomlin last week (I’m guessing you know him, if you listen to Christian music). He leads praise and worship at our new church, and he was at a leadership event last Tuesday. He and his wife were both very nice. But I try to keep reminding myself that although he’s pretty famous (he won a Grammy this year!), he’s just another brother in Christ! ;)

  6. I LOVE Bethenny!! How exciting that you were able to meet her, snap a photo AND ask a question! What was her best marriage advice?

The only celebrity I’ve met is Julie Andrews! The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins were my favorite movies when I was little, so when I had the opportunity to meet her a few years ago, I was completely star-struck. ;)

  7. How cool! I love Bethenny and the show! I hope her marriage works out. I’m sure a lot of it is for tv, but some of their fights get serious!

  8. Brittany says:

Oh how fun! My hubby took me to Live with Regis and Kelly when we went to NYC a couple years ago. I have a huge fascination with Kelly Ripa… not in a weird stalker way. She and Regis were both super nice and down to earth!

  9. Ah! This is so cool! I love that she was at Sam’s Club…of all places!

OH MY GOSH!!! I’ve never really met anyone famous, I think I would get too nervous and stutter over my words! You are officially the coolest person I know now :)

  11. You are officially the coolest person I know!! I’ve never met anyone famous, I’m so jealous!!

  12. Aww that’s so cool that you got to meet her!

Mia Hamm came to my high school once, and since I was on the soccer team at the time I got to meet her (which consisted of a picture and an autograph, but still. Pretty baller). I get absurdly star-struck around famous people, though, so it’s probably a good thing I don’t run into them too often haha.

  13. So fun! I actually saw Bethenny speak a year or so ago when she did her speaking tour!

  14. That’s so cool! I literally just got done watching her show when I read this post.
